IMPHAL, July 15: Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom’s biopic Bollywood film will be released on September 5, 2014.
However, with the release date already set, fans in the State are worried over whether they will be able to watch the movie on the life of their favourite boxer in the theatres.
Hindi films are banned in the entire State by the proscribed outfit Revolutionary Peoples’ Front ever since September 200 and ever since then no Hindi film have been screen at any of the theatres.
Mangte Chungmeijang Mary Kom, also known as MC Mary Kom is a boxer from Kangathei village, Churachandpur district of Manipur.
She is a five time world boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She is also known as Magnificent Mary who and decorated with many awards and recognitions of which a few to mention would be the Padma Bhushan (Sports) 2013, Arjuna Award (Boxing) 2003, Padma Shree (Sports) 2006, contender of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2007.
‘Mary Kom’ is an Indian biographical sports drama film directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Saiwyn Quadras providing the story and screenplay.
This would be Priyanka Chopra’s next role after her sterling role in ‘Barfi’.
The Bollywood beauty who happens to be a former Miss World will be seen as the ace boxer in the film.
As soon as the cast of the film was finalised, Priyanka Chopra had visited Manipur and met the diminutive but fiery boxer.
She met Mary Kom and learn about the boxing star’s lifestyle and received advices and tips on boxing and living in a family as the mother of two children (Mary Kom has now three sons), which was imprinted in the making of the film.
To portray the boxer, Priyanka Chopra drilled herself to shape up and has even reportedly mentioned that Mary Kom has been one of the hardest films of her career.
It is also learnt that the actress had even exhausted herself while filming the crucial climax scenes of the film at Manali.
The film is scheduled for a nationwide September 5 release. Mention may be made that MC Mary Kom was appointed Superintendent of Police (Sports) of Manipur Police Department for her outstanding achievements in the field of sports.M
