IMPHAL, Jul 18 : In view of public convenience, unauthorised parking of private vehicles and vehicles on display by motor showrooms that cause serious accidents leading to death and nuisance on busy roads has been prohibited with immediate effect.
Violation of the order is a punishable offence and hence shall be liable to penalty of Rs 100 fine which may extend up to Rs 300 under Section 177 MV Act, 1988, said a press release issued by SP, Traffic Control Police Wing.

The Government of Manipur has appointed Dr Thongam Bhimo Singh, Professor, Department of Medicine, JNIMS, as the in-charge Director of JNIMS, Porompat in addition to his normal duties for a period of three months with effect from tomorrow or till a full time Director of JNIMS is appointed.
According to the order issued by the Under Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Government of Manipur, Dr L Deben Singh, Professor, Department of Physiology, JNIMS, on expiry of the tenure of his service as in-charge Director, will hand over the charge of JNIMS Director to Dr Thongam Bhimo Singh immediately.

In an unfortunate incident, locals have been unable to find a one and a half year old child identified as one Thingam Malemnganba Singh s/o Thingam Sanatomba of Nungu Mamang Leikai under Sugnu Kendra, after he fell into the river from the Nungu Pombikhok Litan bridge which connects Sugnu and Kumbi, today. According to our correspondent, one of the brothers of the victim identified as Roshan (12), tried to carry the child using a cycle to their mother who was working in the fields.
On the way the cycle chain came off and the child reportedly fell over the bridge and into the river when his elder brother tried to fix the chain by tilting the cycle.
According to a local, the people are trying to locate the child but all efforts till now have been in vain.

The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee,Manipur has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister appealing the State Government to take up necessary steps to recommend the inclusion of Meitei/ indigenous Meitei in the ST list under the Constitution of India to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India by the end of this month.
A press release issued by the president of the committee today stated that the inclusion of Meitei in the ST list is necessary to provide Constitu- tional safeguards to the Meiteis and to create a cohesive and peaceful State.

The Monsoon Assembly Session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has been slated to begin from July 20 till August 16 during a meeting of the Manipur Legislative Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee held today.
According to a source, the Chief Minister, Opposition leaders and legislators of other political parties and top officials took part in the BAC meeting presided by Speaker Y Khemchand at his chamber at the Assembly Secretariat.
The Monsoon session will have a total of 19 sittings, it added.

Not happy with the lethargic approach of the authority concerned towards its demand for implementation of 6th Pay Commission, Imphal Municipal Employees Union has resolved to resume its cease work strike from July 14.
The union in a press release reiterated that it had launched cease work strike from August 8 of last year which was discontinued on September 7 following an assurance made by the then Mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation.
Despite the assurance, the demand has not been fulfilled till date compelling the union to resume its agitation, it said.

IMPHAL, Jul 11: Gold biscuits weighing 1.99 Kg have been seized by Assam Rifles from a bus at Tengnoupal along Imphal-Moreh highway.
Acting on a specific tip off, troops of 12 Assam Rifles checked a bus carrying timbers at around 11.30 am today. On checking the bus, nine gold biscuits were found hidden under the chassis of the bus. The gold biscuits were embossed with the letters DS.
