IMPHAL, June 20: The Khoupum village authority in a statement has informed that the incessant rain in Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district since the first week of June has inflicted a considerable hardship to the farmers of the area.
It said as Khoupum valley is a low lying area, having 1000 hacter of cultivable land, which is prone to flooding. Nearly 750 hecter of land is covered by Khoupum dam canal as per CADA record.
As a result of the incessant rain nearly 800 hectors of paddy field has been submerged by water channeled down from the surrounding hills it claimed.
Stating that the farmers of the area are apprehensive of a famine and outbreak of water borne diseases, it has drawn the attention of the concerned authority to look into the matter and take up preventive measures to ameliorate the farmer’s plight.
