IMPHAL, April 22: A team of Imphal west led by SDPO arrested two members of an established gang involved in various robberies and seized a huge quantity of stolen items from their possession.
The police today produced the gang members alongwith the recovered items in front of media persons during a press conference held at the office of the Imphal West SDPO, Modhunimai.
The arrested members of the gang are identified as Takhelchangbam Ratan Sharma, 24, s/o T Brojen of Bomon Leikai, Thangjam Leirak, Imphal East and Sogolsem Nao Singh, 28, s/o S Ibotomba of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai.
The police reportedly seized one Honda Activa bearing registration no MN0-1880, a computer set along with printer, one gas cylinder, one blanket, one room heater, one sony cyber shot digital camera, one HP printer, one hi-tech inverter, one tata photon plus internet modem, one multi card reader, one wifi receiver, one suitcase and one mini water pump set (Tullu) which were reportedly stolen from different places from Lamphel and Malom areas during the last few days.
During the press conference the SDPO mentioned that, on getting specific information from an intelligence input on the presence of some organized gang of robbers in an around the War cemetery located at Dewlaland, Imphal this morning, a team of the Imphal West district police led by the SDPO himself rushed to the area and conducted specific operation during which the team was able to nabbed the said two gang members.
He further maintained that the stolen items were recovered from various places after their arrest.
The SDPO further mentioned that during preliminary interrogation, the two disclosed that they had started committing such crimes in order to quench their drug addiction.
The SDPO further informed that the police are trying hard to nab the remaining gang members.
He further appealed to the general public to take extra cautions and to inform the police immediately in case any suspicious unknown person is found lurking around.
The police are always ready to extend any form of assistance to the common populace at any time, he added.
