IMPHAL, April 22: In a direct attacked at the Chief Minister, who reportedly made an announcement recently stating that he will not tolerate any kind of irregularities in his government and if required he will step down himself; former MPP MLA L Jatra stated that he is likely to submit a report full of irregularities committed by the Chief Minister within a month and that he is looking forward to the outcome.

The former MLA made the statement during the closing function of a three day discussion on the topic “The role of youth in Governance”, held today at the MPP conference hall, organised by the youth front of the party.

Amidst the prevailing hardship in the state the Chief Minister instead of addressing the grievances of the people is busy extracting his percentage charge, L. Jatra said.

He further held that irregularities have been detected in distribution of old age pension in Thoubal district wherein a 35 year old married woman is being provided with the pension.

Corruption cannot be uprooted by the common people but it can be done only by the higher authorities. He claimed that the flagship programme is nothing but a campaign instrument for the congress party to set up its base in areas where the party is weak.

The former MLA held that development means creating job opportunities, providing essential needs to the farmers and availing essential commodities at subsidise rate to the public. But the flagship programme is functioning on the contrary of its aims and objectives.

He further expressed his apprehension that Manipur is likely to come into extinction due to the corrupt practices of the present government.

The Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) also alleged that the SPF ministry has been running a network of contracts within the Education department and it is one of the main reasons which killed former board chairman Kunjabihari Singh, who was shot inside his office chamber during working hour.

The allegation was made by the general secretary of the MPP, Robin Bicky, during the closing function. The general secretary while reacting to the recently inaugurated and ongoing training programme on flagship schemes of the SPF and central government stated that all the promise made and assurances of the present SPF government are stage plays. He pointed out that all the welfare schemes and programme like the SSA, Mid Day Meal etc. is a total a disaster as most of the beneficiaries liable for the welfare schemes hardly received their shares.

IMPHAL, April 22: A team of Imphal west led by SDPO arrested two members of an established gang involved in various robberies and seized a huge quantity of stolen items from their possession.

The police today produced the gang members alongwith the recovered items in front of media persons during a press conference held at the office of the Imphal West SDPO, Modhunimai.

The arrested members of the gang are identified as Takhelchangbam Ratan Sharma, 24, s/o T Brojen of Bomon Leikai, Thangjam Leirak, Imphal East and Sogolsem Nao Singh, 28, s/o S Ibotomba of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai.

The police reportedly seized one Honda Activa bearing registration no MN0-1880, a computer set along with printer, one gas cylinder, one blanket, one room heater, one sony cyber shot digital camera, one HP printer, one hi-tech inverter, one tata photon plus internet modem, one multi card reader, one wifi receiver, one suitcase and one mini water pump set (Tullu) which were reportedly stolen from different places from Lamphel and Malom areas during the last few days.

During the press conference the SDPO mentioned that, on getting specific information from an intelligence input on the presence of some organized gang of robbers in an around the War cemetery located at Dewlaland, Imphal this morning, a team of the Imphal West district police led by the SDPO himself rushed to the area and conducted specific operation during which the team was able to nabbed the said two gang members.

He further maintained that the stolen items were recovered from various places after their arrest.

The SDPO further mentioned that during preliminary interrogation, the two disclosed that they had started committing such crimes in order to quench their drug addiction.

The SDPO further informed that the police are trying hard to nab the remaining gang members.

He further appealed to the general public to take extra cautions and to inform the police immediately in case any suspicious unknown person is found lurking around.

The police are always ready to extend any form of assistance to the common populace at any time, he added.

IMPHAL, April 22: A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and personnel of 43 Assam Rifles apprehended one alleged cadre of the proscribed KCP ( Lamyanba Khuman) group after a brief encounter at Nungpakthabi village under Sapermeina Police Station in Sadar Hill this morning around 4 am.

The arrested person has been identified as Yumnam Surjit alias Abung 27, s/o late Mani of Motbung Meitei Leikai.

According to an official source, the combined team reportedly recovered one AK-47 Rilfes loaded with a magazine containing nine live rounds and 12 empty cases of AK ammunitions, one lethode gun and four live lethod shells and two fired empty cases of lethod shells along with two demand letters of the KCP(MC) Lamyanba Khuman from his possession.

According to an official source, on getting specific information of the presence of some valley based under ground cadres equipped with sophisticated weapons being stationed in the hilly areas of Nungpakpokpi and Khongnangpokpi villages under Sapermeina police station, the said combined security team led by Inspector Sanjoy OC, CDO Sekmai Unit of Imphal West police rushed to the area and conducted a massive search operation around 3 am this early morning.

The same source maintained that during the said search operation the security team was initially attacked by the UGs by firing lethodes and other sophisticated weapons at which the security forces retaliated after taking positions at the foothills of the Nungpakpokpi which resulted in an exchange of heavy fire from both sides for about 15 minutes.

However taking advantage of the hilly terrain and the thick foliage, the UGs manged to make their escape, he added.

The security team meanwhile proceeded along the escaped path of the UGs and discovered blood stains and vegetations along the route.

The team finally managed to capture Yuman Surjit with arms and ammunition from the Nungpakthabi area, the source added.

KCP (Maoist) warns MLA and workers
IMPHAl April 22: The KCP (Maoist) in a press release by the outfit’s publicity and propaganda assistant secretary Nonglen Meitei has warned MLA Lamshang W Brajabidhu. The outfit will take up action against the MLA and his close workers as Brajabidhu in cahoot with security forces has been trying to bring the important functionaries of the outfit to task ,but the endeavour will prove fruitless as the outfit has strict methods of operations.

It further stated that the security forces are only venting their ire on innocent public and meira paibi leaders. Further, the outfit states that the ban on RDO has been lifted on purview of the careers of the students, but no new enrolment can be made to the institution. The outfit demands one Thiyam Inaocha of Tera Khuraijam Leikai, Oken of Sekmai Kanglatongbi and L Ingoncha of Chana Khul to surrender to the outfit.

IMPHAL, April 22: The second edition of the Innovative Youth Society’s Manipur Chinjak Festivals under the theme “Eat Local Think Global” has been kicked off by the tourism minister, TN. Haokip at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen with local and international flavours.

The food festival is being co-organised with the Tourism department with NE TV and Imphal Free Press as media partners.
Unlike in the past such festivals, four food stalls from foreign countries including Thailand, Korea, China and Tibet are participating in this year’s edition of the Chinjak festival.

Along side the international stalls which will definitely act as the main crowd puller amidst the vast crowd of food lover Imphal citizens, varieties of mouth watering local cuisines of different communities of the state are gathering at a single place, giving a complete sense of satisfaction for the local appetite.

Some of the popular international cuisines includes the Korean Kimchi, Sangupsal, Kimbap, Tibetan Lambhi (veg), Thai traditional Tomyam, Shanghai Tops, Beijing dust of China etc.

While delivering his key note address the managing director of BOCF, Khuraijam Athouba, said they are trying to push the best of local foods of Manipur to the global market.

The Art and Culture director, K. Sobita, observed that Manipuris are apparently loosing the art of indigenous way of cooking and that the currently generation has somewhat forgotten the indigenous way of cooking. She further urged upon the people the need to revive and preserve the indigenous ways.

In his chief guest speech, tourism minister, TN. Haokip, revealed that Manipur has got many indigenous cuisines as there are many different communities residing in the state and this indigenous food can range from fermentation to drying and spicy foods to deserts. If an individual master the art of preserving the indigenous food and promote it to the international market, the individual is likely to become a millionaire, the minister added.

The minister also appealed to all concerned not to hamper in any research or project aiming to bring about development in the field and instead contribute so as to promote the food culture of the state throughout the globe.
Tourism commissioner KK Chhetry, IAS, also attended the inaugural function of the festival.

IMPHAL, April 22: Responding to the official complimentary reports on the abnormal increase of the populations in some villages in Senapati District during the recently activated Census operations as submitted by the state government, a three members team from the MHA and Directorate of Census Government of India have visited the state and conducted field surveillances at Senanpati district yesterday to rectify the erring census reports.

According to a highly placed official source, a three members central team led by Dr. MC Mahenathan, director NE. ministry of home affairs, Government of India, deputy director general of census Government of India, SK Chakraborthy and Lily Chandra Maya, deputy director general of census Government of India have jointly arrived in the state capital yesterday morning from Delhi by air and the visiting central officers have made their direct visit to Senapati district head quarter where they attended an official meeting with the representatives of Naga People organization (NPO) at the office chamber of DC Senapati which was participated by the DC Senapati and SP and other district level officials of Senanapti district.

The official source said that the joint meeting with the central officials discussed the rectifications on the reported abnormal rise of populations in some of the villages under Senapati district during the recently conducted census operations in the district with the representatives of NPO and district administrative officers of the Senapati district.

In the meantime the official source has failed to disclose the official resolutions of the meeting with the central leaders but there is expectation of positive implication of the said joint official meeting in rectifying the erring census reports, the source added.

On the other hand the visiting central officers after attending the meeting at the DC office Senanapti district head quarter yesterday afternoon returned to Imphal by road along the National Highway 39 under tight security protection of 5 MR escorts and stayed for one night at Hotel Classic before leaving for Delhi this morning the official source added.

Clarification
The news report that the IFP had carried in yesterday`s edition under the headline “CM assures completion of four main court rooms by June” stating that the major general CA Krishnan had tendered an apology to justice T Nandakumar, regarding the issue of an alleged altercation between the justice and a Major of the Assam Rifles was wrongly reported and it was a mistake on the part of our staff reporter.
The error is regretted.
