IMPHAL, Dec 1: Skill-development Training on Embroidery – Flower Making, Orientation for PRERAKS, Asst. PRERAKS, VTs, L earners and awareness programme on HIV/AIDS was organised at AEC Model centre, Kangpokpi from November 28 to November 30 under the aegis of SRC NEHU, Shillong, Meghalaya with Laltanpuia Senior Project Officer as convener and Thangtinlal Misao as moderator.

The programme which spread over two sessions was graced by Nengboi Haokip, sr. lady doctor, CHC, Kangpokpi and other renowned social workers. preraks, assistant preraks, MTs, VTs and Learners from 30 AEC centres of Kangpokpi block.

Speaking on HIV/AIDS Dr Nengboi Haokip assured the participants that though the dreaded disease is spreading at an alarming rate due to ignorance through sharing of syringes, body fluids, blood contamination etc the HIV/AIDS can be considerably contained by the application of modern medical science know how and medicines. Hence, the public need not panic. However, timely detection, tackling and awareness among the masses is required, she added.

Laltanpuia, while delivering his speech informed that other Skill-Development programmes such as Radio-T.V. repairing, computer training, carpentry, sewing etc will be organised periodically side by side with literacy campaign.

Lunkholal Vaiphei, social worker in his speech lauded the literacy campaign sponsored by S.R.C. NEHU, Shillong through Adult Education Centre, government of Manipur under Saakshar Bharat Mission. He also remarked that judging by the number of participants who have turned up and enthusiasm it has generated particularly in Kangpokpi block and in the state of Manipur as a whole the mission of Saakshar Bharat Mission would not go in vain rather it would yield the desired results.

IMPHAL Dec 1: The Border Security Force (BSF) battalion head quarter, Koirengei, Imphal has organized a blood donation camp on November 28 November on the eve of its 46th raising day, sector head quarter CI (Ops) Manipur and 13 battalion BSF.

A statement issued by AK Rawat, DC/QM, in this regards said that 109 persons consisting of officers, sub-ordinate officers and other ranks donated blood to the blood bank of RIMS.

It informed that during 2011, BSF had donated blood to the RIMS blood bank, RIMS Imphal on two occasions, April on the eve of world health day at unit hospital battalion HQ, Koirengei and on July on the eve of world blood donors days at RIMS hospital Imphal in which a total of 74 persons donated blood.

IMPHAL, Dec 1: The Director of university and higher education, Dr. RK Yaiskul Singh, in an official statement has notified a new schedule for the students’ union election for the academic session, 2011 for government, government aided and private colleges.

As per the schedule the scrutiny will is fixed on December 7 from 10:30 am, last date of withdrawal of nomination on the same day at 3pm.

The date of poll is scheduled on December 9 from 9am to 12 noon and in the meantime the declaration of results is also scheduled on the same day from 1 pm till its end.
