Imphal, Jan 24 NNN: Seven Bangladesh nationals possessing improper documents were detained and later handed over to police by volunteers
of Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) with the help of volunteers of personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at
Wahengbam Leikai Jiri bus parking in Imphal.
Seven people, hailing from Bangladesh were intercepted and detained by volunteers of FRIENDS with the assistance provided from IRB personnel last night around 10:45 at Wahengbam Leikai Jiri bus parking, FRIENDS
general secretary, Joy told the media at its office today.
He said the trio, who possessed incomplete identification documents issued by an Assamese Zilla Parishad Member, was arrested just
after they alighted from a Tata Winger passenger van with registration No. 5385 belonging to a Manipuri.
The three foreigners were later handed over to the city police, Joy informed and said that they had been handed over to the police as they
had no proper identification documents. He also appealed the people of the State to inform FREINDS if any body comes upon such
persons anywhere in the State.
According to 2001 census, the total population of foreigners living in the State was recorded as 74488 and this clearly shows an influx of
foreigners in Manipur from neighboring Myanmar and Bangladesh, Joy added.
