Imphal. April 9 MNS NNN: The lack of discipline in the Manipur police and security personnel is due to lack of discipline and morality during their students’ life, which has now led to their involvement in serious crimes.
This was stated by Manipur home minister of Manipur G. Gaikhangam while speaking as the chief guest in the 42nd Foundation Day of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Manipur Unit at Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Monday. function to observe the foundation of NSUI at the Congress office.
All security personnel should try to inculcate good habit and should treat people well he further said. The government is also trying to look into the functioning of the Village Defence Force (VDF) he assured.
The Manipur home minister said that the government is working out ways and means to make the police department public friendly and win back the lost confidence of the people of the state who can no longer consider the police personnel as their protectors. The government is meeting and consulting the officials of the police department to steamline and improve the department, and also how best the Village Defence Force can be utilised, as the public is clearly not satisfied with them, he added.
Gaikhangam urged the members of NSUI to have good discipline and become good citizens so that such unfortunate incidents of involvement of police and security personnel in crimes can be stopped in future.
He reminded the students that though the NSUI is a frontal organisation of the Congress party, they should not consider themselves to be in politics and forget that they are students, and they should first be good disciplined students in order to be good leaders.
The NSUI have branches in 13 colleges in the state apart from NSUI Manipur unit and it is one of the biggest student organisations in South East Asia, stated T. Manga Vaiphei, who was a caretaker of NSUI Manipur unit, speaking as the president of the function. He also urged the office bearers of the students organisation to work sincerely for the betterment and welfare of the student community.
