Imphal. May 14 NNN: “The government of India will be held responsible if the Kuki militants who have signed suspension of operation (SoO) agreement with the government go back to insurgency”, said a protestor on Monday in Churachandpur demanding Kuki State.
On the second day of the 72 hour bandh called by the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC), normal life in Kuki dominated areas of Manipur was completely paralyzed, though there was no visible effect of the general strike in Imphal.
Windshields of two Tata Magic and one Alto car were smashed by supporters of the general strike at Churachandpur town, a Kuki dominated area and tyres were burnt on National Highway 150 (Tiddim road) to stop vehicular movement along this road.
International border town Moreh is reported to have a deserted look on the second day of the general strike and no vehicles could be seen plying on National Highway 102 (Imphal – Moreh road).
All types of educational institutions, markets, business establishments, shops, were closed down in Kuki dominated areas.
Inter-state passenger buses, and trucks carrying various types of goods coming to Manipur are stranded at Senapati and Jiribam, said police source.
Jampao Lungdim, a supporter of the general strike said that the government of India do not want to give a chance to the Kuki people for a peaceful political talk to their demand of a Kuki state and so they have been left without any other choice except to protest, though they did not want to disturb the normal life of innocent people in the state.
It may be mentioned that the general strike began from 6 pm of May 12 and will end at 6 pm on May 15, from which the economic blockade will start till 6 pm of May 19 demanding a Kuki State.
