Imphal, August 22 MNS NNN : The nationwide strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) pushing various demands hit normal functioning of all the public sector and private sector banks including foreign banks in Manipur today.
UFBU, a united body of bank unions across India which include APBCA, AIBOC, NCBC, BEF (NER) and AIBOA has called a two-day strike which ends tomorrow mainly against the proposed Banking Laws (Amendment Bill) 2011.
Striking members of UFBU, Manipur State Committee demonstrated in front of State Bank of India, Imphal Branch here at MG Avenue taking part in the all India protest.
Strongly protesting against the proposed Bill, they are saying no to privatisation of public sector banks (PSBs), reduction on Government’s equity in PSBs, World Bank loan to capitalise PSBs, unrestricted entry of foreign capital in banking sector, closure of rural branches, etc.Issues and demands:
The demands 1. Do not privatize Public Sector Banks
2. Do not reduce Government’s equity in Public Sector Banks
3. Do not avail World Bank Loan to capitalize Public Sector Banks
4. Do not allow unrestricted entry of foreign capital in Banking Sector
5. Do not delete Section 12(2) of Banking Regulation Act
6. Do not remove the ceiling on voting rights of foreign investors
7. Do not issue license to industrial houses to start their own Banks
8. Do not outsource permanent banking jobs and normal banking services
9. Implement compassionate appointment / financial compensation scheme as finalized between IBA and UFBU
10. Implement 5 day banking.
11. Regulate and define working hours of Bank Officers
12. Stop unilateral implementation of Khandelwal Committee recommendations
13. Stop Banking Sector reforms ,14. Stop closure of rural branches .
