IMPHAL, Sept 1 NNN: The month-long 116th Jananeta Irawat Birth Anniversary organised by the Irawat celebration Committee (ICC) was on Saturday begun at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal at the presence of Moirangthem Ibohal who had worked with Irawat who was one of the pioneering figures of Manipur.
Speaking on the inaugural function of the anniversary, ICC president P Parijat asserted that it is the need of the hour that the people are desseminated on the principle and thoughts of Irawat considering the present atmosphere where corruption and the morale of the people have changed in a big different way.
The current situation in the state demands the same great movements of the past and it is the right time that the people take up such movements, Parijat urged.He also urged to take up intense movement during the month-long birthday celebration of Irawat and join hands together with all the farmers in the state.
Dr M Nara, secretary, Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI), who was also present at the function while addressing the gathering said though India has joined the development pace the crisis of capitalism faced by people has caused misery everywhere, saying it has indirectly impacted on the state which has become a land of bandh and blockades.Nara called Manipur a lawless state where a situation has created for violence among the people who are fighting for self-interest.
He said the Irawat birthday is celebrated in the month of September every year because this month is also a month of struggle for the people of Manipur.”We should face the present crises of capitalism and corruption.”
N Mangi and L Iboyaima, both secretariat members of CPI Manipur, and L Sotinkumar, general secretary, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur amongst others were also present at the event.
