Imphal, Sep 5 : As a part of its yearlong programme in connection with the silver jubilee celebration, the Manipur library association {mala), jointly with the Canchipur high school, is organising the 3rd Atulchandra memorial lecture-2012 cum book releasing function synchronising with the 115th birth anniversary of Dr. H. Atulchandra Singh on Monday, September10 at 11:30 am at the premises of the Canchipur high school. In the occasion in which Dr. Th. Purnima head, department of library and information science, Manipur University and H. Jilla Singh, head master, Canchipur high school are to grace as the occasion as chief guest and president respectively, Dr. T. Tomba singh as the invited speaker, will deliver the Stulchandra memorial lecture-2012 on the theme “role of school library in quality education in Manipur”. As apart of the programme, the 29th book of the mala entitled napu machugi kakcheng of l.c. Lalhanba will also be released.
Former principal, College, Bishnupur and a renowned critic, Salam Tomba will review the book. As a mark of respect, floral tribute will be given to the statue of late Dr. Huirongbam Atulchnadra who established the Canchipur high school
During theprogramme.lt may kindly be noted that Atulchandra was one of the pioneers of die library movement of Manipur who establish the manipur club on 7th April, 1927 to render library services in a formalised manner mostly to the students and youths of the adjoining areas of the Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai. He renamed the club as Manipur club library on the 1st January, 1931 and again on 19th April, 1933 the name of the library has been changed to Juvabati memorial library dedicating it to his beloved mother late chonu {juvabati). Not only in the field of library Atulchandra was a multifaceted personality of the 20th century. On his 115th birth anniversary the Manipur library association pays its humble tribute by organising the memorial lecture.
