Vehicle lifters are prowling everywhere. They work in group chalking out strategy and operate like professionals. Police caught too many of them but they escaped scot free. Thieves’ mentality remains unknown. How they operate and the strategies they adopt need to be elaborately described. Vehicle owners do not know when and how the lifters act, so they carelessly leave behind their vehicles on the street and courtyard. If they the modus operandi adopted by the thieves they will be able to take precautionary measures and they may keep their vehicles safe beyond the reach of the thieves. The owners, who have been deprived of their two wheelers by the thieves have different stories to tell, many sound funny and others mindboggling. While negotiating the price of vegetable the two wheeler, which was parked nearby was pushed away slowly to disappear. When he turned back what he found was the imprint of the tyre. He was a miserly person. The thief knew he would waste nearly one hour to bargain the price of coriander leaves worth Rs five. Then another had his Honda Acitva gone within minutes of his entry to a hotel to have a bottle of cold drink. Does not the story sound funny? In the two incidents the owners’ foolishness is exposed. The duo was different from other smart guys, who buy vegetables without actually getting down from the vehicle and exchanging the item with money by remaining on the driver’s seat. A lady employee, whose two-wheeler was lost said she parked the vehicle at the roadside of the Kangla pat. Manipur will continue to hear the news of the loss of vehicles as long as owners show carelessness in parking their vehicles. One must be vigilant of one’s own vehicle. Do not park the vehicle at the area which does not have care taker. Drug addicts joining the profession is a dangerous trend. Because the addicts need money more than anybody else to buy drugs. They show readiness to do anything if they would be given some money. Their thinking capability having been disturbed by the drugs they cannot see the harms they are doing to the society. They can be used even for hurling hand grenade. This is sorry state of affairs which we have witnessed in Manipur. Thieves are everywhere waiting for the opportune moment to begin their job, therefore vehicle owners should calculate the time being taken in meeting friends or buying goods from the shop. If they would depart from their vehicles for prolonged period of time they should use extra locking system to deceive the thief. Tuition goers use a method inserting an iron rod in the engine before going to the teacher’s house. Similar method can be applied by others also. Manipur police having talked to the thieves might have known how the thieves operate. Speak it out to make owners wiser that will be of immense help in controlling the menace of vehicle lifting from the crowded bazaar area.
