Some of these young MLAs are interesting. They talk about the welfare of poor men and show readiness to work for uplifting living condition of the hapless people. But God knows what will happen later on after they have worked for some time more. Like them other representatives also need to identify the areas where they should focus. In the recent election too many firebrand MLAs lost in the fight, because they kept themselves aloof from the common masses. With the dark glasses on they moved. The dark glass stood in between the voters and the candidates. Eye contact could not be established as the voters could not know to which direction the candidates with the glass on were looking. Either they were dozing or looking to a different direction. At the end they suffered dismal defeat. While talking to the common masses they acted as if they were princes, who required no election to reach the coveted post. Their sudden change of life style after victory in the election reveals a false image like the square peg in the round hole and the poor voters find it awkward to get close to them. That marks the beginning of alienation between voters and representatives. Like the big and famous they can put on the finest dress to conform to the situation but among the common masses they look awesome. Some of the representatives competed in wearing latest designer wears and Cartier glasses. They talked openly loud enough among themselves to be heard by the common people about the dresses they wore. There is nothing wrong with that as long as common masses are not around them. But once the poor common masses have descended on the scene the topic should be changed. Elected representatives must behave as the true representatives of the people. They are different from bureaucrats, who can maintain silence without listening to what others say. Bureacrats are born to do that, to act according to the dictate of the Government. Like the big politicians, who think and work keeping the interest of the common masses above all our representatives must attempt to carry along with them the voters by talking about the poor people and doing for them only. Don’t change life styles after you have won the election; if you do that victory is yours for all time to come. As one joins electoral politics one must inculcate the habit of keeping folks happy by listening to their genuine demands. Anything that cannot be done must be rejected. In creating false hope by pretending to be all in all in getting developmental programmes for the respective constituencies more enemy is created. Plead the inability to do without hurting the sentiments of the masses. Nothing wrong in disclosing the limitation of the elected representatives in performing duties. In doing that the confidence of the masses can be won. What is required is keeping up the motto to work for the welfare of the common masses. Such representatives will continue to be the chum of the masses. No doubt some of these MLAs have won the hearts and mind of the masses living in the state. Keep it up.
