IMPHAL, Sept 29 NNN: If you persistently trace back the history you will have to lead the life of a caveman because the world has already abandoned the idea of being entity particularly the feeling of having one’s own community which makes a great hurdle in bringing changes in a society.
MLA of Kakching constituency Y Surchandra stated this at a seminar held under the theme ‘One-day Discussion on the Future of Manipur organised by the Freedom Research Foundation (FRF) under the aegis of Freedom Manipur here at the Manipur Press Club.
Taking part at the discussion as chief guest, MLA Surchandra held if you insisted on tracing back the history you will have to lead a life of a caveman because the world has already abadoned the idea of being entity, particularly the feeling of having one’s own community which hampers efforts to bring changes in a society.
He said the system of untouchability existed in the long past has now come out to be near abolished among the present new generation and asserted freedom should have its social limitation and it cannot be a boundless thing.
Surchandra also suggested to promote work culture without which development is impossible and urged for a socio-economy oriented society.
Congress MLA RK Anand, who was also participating at the deliberation, stressed on giving emphasis on a serious view on the current position of Manipur, its people and the insurgent movement from a common platform, saying it would be much better to work out to control and prevent the present state of affairs prevailing in the state for the future of the state.
All the activities of both the state-actors and non-state actors are meant only for the public and the fact is that the both sides should engage their respective affairs by considering the sentiment of the people.
Anand further noted it is quite necessary to concentrate deeply on the relationship between India and Manipur because there is a close relationship between the future of the country and the future of the state and mentioned the need of proper thought on how far the Manipuri society has degenerated. Anand was taking part at the discourse as president.
The one-day discussion was held in two separate sessions-morning and evening. In the evening session, Dr Lokendra Arambam moderated it and RK Ranendrajit, chairman, Freedom Research Foundation attended as president. Resource persons participating at the discussion also spoke and delivered their view and opinions.
Prof Ksh Bimola underscored on the need of serious discussion on the present situation in the state and said only then a good future can spring up. She, however, expressed doubt about the future of the state when looking at the current problems.
Prof Gangumei Kamei pointed out that Manipur is one of the oldest states of India and that in order to bring a good society it is equally important to have good and intellectual persons who will make a lively society.
Prof Dr RK Ranjan accused the Manipuri society of respecting only the affluent people who have become rich over night by illegal means and frauds. This has made a society which cannot be brought about peace and changes.
He also said besides other important factors, it is important to keep up the environment alike for a better future.
Prof Dr Chinglen Maisnam while speaking at the deliberation said today’s activities will shape the future of Manipur, but the future of the state is in darkness if the present trail goes on as it is in the long run.
All the thinkers should take part with action and at the same time all the doers should think and do their activities and if so, it would make it easy to bring changes in the society, Prof Chinglen suggested. We should make our own future.”
Prof Ch Priyoranjan and president of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) A Mobi also spoke at the discussion. Various representatives from different NGOs were also participated it.

IMPHAL, Sept 29 NNN: Ahead of the raising day celebration of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro), the Imphal West district police commandos during a counter-insurgency operation nabbed two members of the outfit and seized five lathod bombs from them at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai in Imphal West yesterday.
Addl Superintendant of Police, Imphal West district, S Ibomcha at a press briefing at his office here on Saturday identified the two members of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Pro) group as Sarangthem Gourashyam aged 32, son of S Ibohal, a resident of Kakching Khunou near Tampakyam Lower Primary School Leikai, Thoubal district, but presently staying at Naorem Leikai near Narsing Mandir in Imphal West and Mayangbam Amarjit alias Mayamba aged 44, son of M Mangi of Singjamei Wangma Mongkhang Lambi in Imphal East.
He said the duo was planning to attack the security forces in connection with the outfit’s raising day.
Acting on a tip off, at around 10 am, a team of the district police commandos carried out an operation at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai when the duo was arrested along with the bombs, the SP said.
On spot search of Gourashyam’s Honda Activa scooter, 15 plastic packets of Fuji detergent were found in a box out of which five of them were discovered to contain five lathod bombs concealed inside the detergent powders, he added.
The five bombs were handed to him by one Koijam Deban alias Premcha alias Khamba of Khongman Mangjil Mamang Pat Leirak, a self-styled captain of PREPAK (Pro), Ibomcha cited Gourashyam as saying.
Amarjit also disclosed that Deban instructed him to receive the lathod bombs from Gourashyam and keep ready for using against the security forces and for other subversive activities in connection with the outfit’s raising day, the SP said.
Ibomcha further said that Amarjit has been working under the command of Deban for the last one year and under the latter’s instruction the former had served demand letters to various Government employees, contractors and Government departments as per statement given by him.

Mumbai, Sep 29 (ANI): Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan on Saturday accepted the resignation of Ajit Pawar as the state’s deputy chief minister. IMPHAL, Sept 29 NNN: Mushrooming of organisations in Manipur is a phenomenon that has penetrated every nook and corner of the society.
In Tamenglong district itself, nearly 20 organisations have been floated in the last one year. So is in many hill districts “for the benign causes”, according to leaders who floated organisations. It is also common to come across that a head of an organisation is also the head of at least 5 other organisations. For that matter, an office bearer of an NGO is likely to be a member of many other organidsations.
In the valley districts, the trend is even more alarming. Every next day, an organosation is floated.
Some intellectuals and public leaders of the state are critical of this phenomenon.
In a whirlwind interviews with some leaders by Newmai News Network today, the views shared by them are similar.
United Naga Council (UNC) general secretary Gaidon Kamei said most of the organisations or NGOs are not accountable. “People with vested interest are floating organisations to meet their selfish ends,” stated the UNC leader. “If your houses are burning and as long as my house is safe, I’m fine. This is the attitude of the people who are addicted to floating organisations,” the UNC leader pointed out. Organisations are also floated by people to counter those organisations that oppose their interests, added Gaidon Kamei.
All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) president A. Mobi has to say this on the rising number of social organisations in Manipur, “People have gone the subjective approach rather than the objective approach.” The senior journalist said everybody started losing faith in each other and hence floating their own respective organisations. “These people who float the organisations just do petty things and want their names get published in the newspapers the next day and earn some credit for certain work,” stated A Mobi.
Noted scholar and activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram shared that getting rich over night, fame and other personal benefits are factors for mushrooming organisations not only in Manipur but everywhere. “These people who love floating organisations for one reason or the other lack social concern in most cases,” rues Dr Dhanabir Laishram.
Dr M.C Arun of Manipur University has similar opinion. He said educated unemployed youths often float NGOs to get money from various funding agencies. “Since they are educated they know where the funds will come from,” added Dr Arun while adding, “However, this is not to say that there is no genuine NGOs.”

Dr. K. Parameswaran ,Assistant Director, PIB, Madurai.
It was as if the sun had risen at night in Sitraruvipatti, a settlement hamlet in Vellimalaipatti Kottampatti block of Madurai District. The hamlet is situated in the foothills of the evergreen Alagarkovil reserve forest, about 39 kms from Madurai.
For Ayyavu, a small and marginal farmer and others, last September seventh was a day to be remembered for ever. They were literally “thamaso ma gamaya” – led from darkness to light – thanks to solar lighting systems.
When the solar lights were switched on, the loudest claps and cheers came from the children who had assembled there, probably because they can now bid good-bye’ to Kerosene lamps!
All the residents of Sitaruvipatti are small and marginal farmers who are actively engaged in agriculture – especially vegetable farming and horticulture. There are 30 children in the hamlet. Amongst them 20 walk to school about four kms away daily. Hither to they could use only kerosene lamps for pursuing their studies at home after dusk.
Through the coordinated efforts put in by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and Selco Solar- an enterprise founded by Harish Hande, a Magsaysay Award winner for 2011 – Solar Home lighting has been introduced in this remote hamlet. In a glittering function, solar lighting system was inaugurated by Shri S.Natarajan, DGM, Nabard, Madurai. He requested more banks should come forward to finance solar systems in remote rural areas.
Shri R. Shankar Narayan, AGM, NABARD, Madurai said that IOB has financed the solar lighting system with 40% Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) subsidy under the Government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). The Nabard channelised the subsidy, while 10% of the investment was provided by beneficiary contribution.
In order to optimize the exploitation of solar power and to promote commercial marketing of solar accessories, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has evolved the JNNSM. As per the guidelines, the units could be located both in urban and rural areas and the models could be home lighting systems or inverter based systems capable of handling general AC loads. Beneficiaries are eligible for assistance under the scheme by way of 40% capital subsidy.
Release of loan shall be made directly to the manufacturers approved by MNRE. After loan sanction including subsidy, the bank shall approach NABARD for release of capital subsidy. On receipt of subsidy from NABARD, the bank shall disburse the loan directly to the manufacturers who will install the lighting systems as per MNRE approved specifications.

Trinamol Congress threatened to bring down UPA Government at the centre on FDI issue. It withdrew support to the UPA Government perhaps guided by the wrong notion that the other allies of the UPA would move in tandem with Trinamol. On the contrary UPA was strengthened with both SP and BSP openly declaring that the false step would invite the communal forces to hold the mantle of power. BJP also declared at the end of its three-day convention held at Surajkunja that it will fight relentlessly against the FDI in retail sector though it supports economic reforms launched by the Union Government. Nevertheless to a common man FDI is non issue. General public are in the dark what change will it bring by allowing FDI in retail sector. A pertinent question is being asked will it enter smaller states in NE region. Will Walmart come to Manipur also? If they come will they move to the remote villages of the state to do the business of selling pulses and pan? Just as the hyped up propaganda of economic relief the country will be getting after allowing FDI in retail sector the concocted stories of lower middle class losing fiefdom in retail sectors thereby facing the threat to survival is also confusing. Are all these small shops, which sell cigarettes, pans and chewing gums going to be banned after the entry of foreign companies? Nobody can dictate the term and it is consumers’ right from where one buys consumable items. If these foreign companies come to Manipur to do the business it will be interesting to watch. The manner with which they run the shop to get customer and how they solicit them will be enjoyable to see. Amazingly these political parties are throwing abusive languages against each other without knowing what will FDI do to the nation. If FDI harms national interest of supporting poor and needy people it can be thrown away from the soil. But the Government should be given opportunity to do the new experiment. If the economic reforms launched in early nineties brought a sea change to the nation with foreign companies entering Indian market there is nothing wrong to say this FDI will give the thrust to improving economy of the country. Prime Minister had said boldly no Government wants to put burden on its people. Prime Minister Manmohon Singh is economic wizard. If his words would be rejected whose voice should we hear. Irresponsible utterances of talkative class. Innocent common people, who are hard pressed to keep the kitchen burning do not have time to think over all these issues that are being cooked up for one reason or other. Allow them to do their normal duties. If BJP and Trinamol stand against FDI in retail sectors they can take steps to shoo away foreign companies from the soil of the company albeit after these parties come to power. The arrival of that day may be possible if the voters opt for these parties. But FDI cannot be used as election issue. Because general public want to see entry of foreign companies in retail sectors.
