Imphal, Sep 30: The 116th birth anniversary of pioneer Hijam Irawat was observed in different parts of the state.
Social service, march past competitions and song completions were organised in every corner of the state and neighbouring states. Candles and lights were litted at night in streets of the state.
Irawat celebration committee Manipur observed the day at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen. Participants led by CPI leader, M. Ibohal brought the life size photo of the leader from Irawat Bhawan to the Iboyaima Shanglen where the gathering honoured him. About 42 contingents compete in march past competition. All India students federation organized a state level march past competition. M. Ibohal, leader of CPI, P. Parijat, president ICC, CPI state secy. Dr. M. Nara, secretariat member N. Mangi, S. The day organized by Janneta Hijam Irawat birth day celebration committee was also held at MDU Hall RK Anand, MLA, Meitram Shamu chairman of the committee, N. Binoy, president, senior citizen for society, Ksh. Ibohal, president MDU, Sarat Salam, state secretariat member CPI and others also attended the function.

Meinya stated that Irabot was not only the leader of Manipur but also the leader of all mankind who had worked effortlessly to bring unity and change in the society and added that the stalwart had his own principles like the one of Lenin and Gandhi. There is a feeling of class differences among the people of the state in the present society. One this particular day, let us pray that the wall will break soon, he appealed.
Recalling the leader, Dr. Ratankumar said that in history people in the world have witnessed the emergence of leaders in every society when it needed in a bad time, such is the same at the case of Hijam Irabot, adding that one should follow the footsteps of the leader in order to bring peace and unity in the society.
Another such ceremony was also held at Laikhulembi Shanglen, Khurai organised by the Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee, Manipur today.
