IMPHAL, Oct 2 MNS NNN: ” People across the country have been observing National Cleanliness Day in commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 every year. Gandhiji was a true leader who had fought for the poor and the discriminated people of the country. He was a rare leader who always believed in freedom, non-violence, love and unity and strove for creating a society where one can enjoy equal rights. He with his non-violence movement helped India to gained Independence from the then British empire “, said Chief Minister O. Ibobi.
He was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of National Cleanliness Day which was held to mark the 143rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at G.M. Hall here organised by the state’s Home Department.
The observance function was also attented by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Phungjathang Tonsing as the functional president. Other ministers, MLAs and officials of state’s different department were also present at the occassion.
The Chief Minister stated that one should maintain cleanliness in and around the state in order to prevent from various diseases and added that Mahatma Gandhi had also want cleanliness to maintain in the country.
” One needs to follow the ideals and footsteps of Gandhi in order to bring peace, unity and tranquility in the state. On this particular day let us hope that peace and prosperity will prevail in the state “,he added.
Commemorating the anniversary, another observance function was also held at the office of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, MPCC located at B.T. Road where President of MPCC, Gaikhangam who also hold the post of Home Minister of the state presided over the function.
Meanwhile, as celebrated in other parts of the globe, the oganising committee of the The International Day of Non-Violence, Manipur observed the 6th International Day of Non-Violence here today which also falls on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Manipur Press Club.
The organising committees which held today’s observance comprises of total 15 peace building organisations from across the state.
The function was graced by Padmashri Rajkumar Jhalajit Singh, Eminent Gandhian and N. Benoy Singh, President of Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur as the chief guest and president respectively. Professor L. Sadananda and Professor Ksh. Bimola Devi also shared at the dais.
Speaking as the chief guest, Padmashri Rajkumar Jhalajit Singh stated that non-violencce was the only weapon used by Mahatma Gandhi, who helped lead India to Independence and inspired movement of Civil Rights and freedom across the world.
Professor L. Sadananda said non-violence is the only way in which one can achieve any movement peacefully without hurting anyone.
