In connection with the demand of Casual Labour Permit for 300 people from Cachar (Assam) per day to allow entry up to Vairengte IOC depot (Mizoram) without Innder Line Permit (ILP) by All Barak Youth Student Association (ABYSA) to the government of Mizoram, a deputy commissioner’s level talk will be held at Silchar on October 5.
This development came amid the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the largest students’ body in Mizoram and Vairengte Co-ordination Committee made a resolution, urging the government to enforce the ILP as it has been.
ABYSA has reportedly said, “If things do not turn out in a satisfactory way after the talk between Kolasib deputy commissioner (Mizoram) and the deputy commissioner of Cachar (Assam) on October 5, they would organise another road block along National Highway-54. Moreover, according to Vairengte SDO (Civil), the blockade, if imposes again, may also include Bairabi roads.
A public meeting jointly called by MZP and Vairengte NGO Co-ordination Committee was held yesterday at Mizoram police check-gate at Vairengte concerning over the recent actions by the Cachar side. The joint meeting passed a resolution, in which the state government is urged to continue enforcing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) as it is and in a stringent manner.
MZP president, James Thanghmingmawia, in the gathering said that in the issue of boundary dispute the Mizos cannot be the loser ones, adding, “To protect what our forefathers have inherited us is the responsibility of the younger generations.” He also added that none of the ruling governments in Mizoram have serious initiated to settle the dispute which is regretful.
In the meatime, he lauded the people of Vairengte for their dedication in protecting the Mizoram boundary.
Vairengte Joint YMA president, L Hmangaihzuala also told the gathering that the people of Mizoram need unity on the boundary dispute. Resolutions include that the Government should continue enforcing the existing Inner Line Permit as it is and in a more stringent way.
