IMPHAL, Oct 3: The dead body of a woman who was allegedly raped before being murdered found with her throat slit near a hillock in Lai Lam Thokpham Ching of Sekmai Ningthou and Nongpok Ningthou under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel district of Manipur on October 2, has been identified today.
The deceased has been identified as Kh. Catherine @ Shangtoi (15) d/o Kh. Simon Lamkang and Kh. Mary Lamkang of New Lamkang village of Chandel district. She was studying in class 10 at St. Paul High School which is located at Liwachangning of Chandel district.
According to family members, the deceased was staying in a rented house of DP. Daniel near St. Paul High School with his sister.
Catherine was found missing after she left the place on October 1 at around 3 pm.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee Against The Brutal Killing of Catherine has been formed in connection. A sit in protest was staged at Chandel Lamkhai, Pallel jointly organised by Naga Woman Organisation, Chandel; All Tribal Women Organisation, Chandel; Chingtam Nupi Lup along with the JAC. Another sit in protest was also staged at St. Paul High School with the school students and teachers participated at it.
Meanwhile, the JAC urged to the concerned authorities to book the culprits and bring justice in connection with the case. “We will not accept the dead body of the deceased which is still lying in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) mortuary here until the demands are met”, the JAC demanded.
It may be mentioned here that the dead body of KH. Catherine was found in a pool of blood with her throat slit at the said spot on October 2. The body was come across by some children who went to the hillock in search of mushrooms on the particular day.
