Discovering the smuggling of banned wildlife items in No.2 Gate (Moreh) of Chandel district, troops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) launched operation in the area and apprehended two individuals alongwith banned wild life products on 29 Oct 12. The apprehendees were identified as Wahengbam Mani of Lamphel Sanakithel, and Chingangbam Rajesh Singh (35), of Lamleng Mayai Leikai, PO-Lamshang. Five Tokay Geckos were recovered from the apprehendees the same being smuggled from Moreh to Myanmar and further to be sent to China. The estimated cost of each of this is about Rs. 30,000/- to Rs.40,000/ in the domestic market. Both the apprehendees alongwith the recovery were handed over to the Wild Life Department, Moreh.
