IMPHAL, Nov 10 NNN: A huge quantity of contraband drugs estimated at Rs 6,16,167 has been pushed into the poilce’s dragnet with the arrest of a person along with a driver.
The accused, along with the banned drugs were displayed before the media persons by superintendent of police (anti-smuggling) L Simte of Custom Division, Imphal here today.
The accused Md Islao Rahman, 20 years old, son of Abdul Salam of Lilong Turel Ahanbi, Thoubal district has been smuggling the drugs in a DI, bearing number NL-01-G-5670 and caught at a spot near the New Guwahati High Court, Chingmeirong, Imphal when a police team intercepted the contraband.
Sent by Chanchan from Delhi by train, the drugs were loaded from Dimapur and hidden in the midst of chappals and sandals in a DI mini truck driven by one Ruland Adalu, 22 years old, son of H Adur of Dimapur.
The huge quantities of drugs and are en route to Burma and to be handed over to one Kishore, a Nepali from Burma for sale there which include 15120 strips of SP tablets, 5850 strips of Actilab-T tablets, 1000 bottles of 100 ml Phensedyle bottles, 1170 bottles of Lupicof syrup, and 24,000 strips of Actilite tablets; altogether estimated to be worth more than 6 lakhs.
