IMPHAL, Nov 20: The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Tuesday held its first general
assembly-2012-14 during which five resolutions were adopted to put forward to the state Government for
implementation at the earliest.

 

ATSUM’s general assembly held at Hotel Tampha here was attended by 80 delegates from five federating units of
the union. The general assembly decided to submit five resolutions taken at the congregation to the state
Government for implementation at the earliest, ATSUM spokesperson Majabung Gangmei told reporters at the hotel
after the assembly.

 

The five resolutions stated that the general assembly decided to pressurize the Government for setting up of a state
tribal commission at the earliest, it further resolved to put pressure on the Government for setting up of B Ed centres
in the hill districts and the congregation also agreed to look into the various issues involving Indira Gandhi National
Tribal University (IGNTU).
The general assembly also resolved to pressurize the Government to provide adequate staff and infrastructures in
educational educations and further resolved to protect indigenous tribal land and natural resources and that free,
prior and informed consent of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) should be
the basis for the indigenous people, their land and resources.
