IMPHAL, Nov 21(NNN): With an aim of putting up a common platform of the North East by generating ideas and inputs to “Post 2015 Development Agenda”, a two-day consultative programme of the civil society groups of the North East region commenced today at the court room, Vice Chancellor Secretariat, Administrative Block, Manipur University in Imphal.
The programme named, ‘Regional Consultation for Civil Society Engagement in the Post 2015 UN Development Agenda’ was organized by Human Rights Alert, Manipur University, United Voluntary Youth Council of Manipur, Wada Na Todo Abhiyan of New Delhi and Women in Governance (Wing G) of India.
The programme was attended by around 50 representatives including 10 from other NE states and will conclude tomorrow.
However, there are no representatives from Nagaland and Mizoram.
In the backdrop of failure to do away with extreme hunger and poverty and achieve primary universal education, promote gender equality and empower women, give access to basic health care, etc, situation for discussions and consultations has arisen to make such goal a reality, the programme has been held.
Such programmes were already organized in North, South, East and West India, national consultation programme will be held on November 27 and 28 next, said Babloo Loitongbam, executive director of Human Rights Alert.
Conflict situations and non-availability of accountability structure as stranding development in the region, Loitongbam said a strategy will be submitted to include in the UN developmental programme.
Today’s programme was inaugurated by HNK Sarma, Vice Chancelor of Manipur University and presided by professor Amar Yumnam , Dean of Social Sciences, Manipur University. Richa Singh of Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (New Delhi) also addressed the programme.
