Imphal, Dec 1 NNN : The process for design finalization on construction of a ‘four lane bridge’ at Sanjenthong over the Imphal River is almost finished and that Manipur Government is also preparing to submit the estimated cost of the bridge and its Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central Government in early part of 2013. The existing Sanjenthong Bridge over the Imphal River, now unsuitable to the increasing traffic volume in the Imphal city, was built by Public Works Department (PWD) in the early part of 1970s, a top official of the department said.
Manipur Government had earlier in 2010 submitted the ‘project profile’ of the proposed four lane bridge to be constructed at Sanjenthong to DoNER Ministry, the PWD official said.
He said the estimated cost of the bridge was earlier fixed at Rs 10 crore only and in tandem the DoNER Ministry had approved the proposal. At the same time, the ministry had also asked the state Government to duly submit the proper DPR that includes the design and estimated cost of the proposed bridge, he said.
Acting on the green signal given by the ministry, hectic preparation of the DPR as well as the design finalization of the bridge is on by the state Government, the official informed. Now, the process on design finalization being carried out along with consultants from outside is almost finished, he added while further informing that the state Government is preparing to submit the DPR in early part of 2013 to the DoNER Ministry.
The total length of the proposed four lane bridge will be 61-metre long with breadth of 15 metres. The state Government has also newly fixed the estimated cost of the bridge at Rs 35 crore which was earlier fixed at Rs 10 crore. The construction of the bridge will be taken up under the funding of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR), the official added.
