IMPHAL, December 19: Imphal West commandos have arrested five persons allegedly involved in the abduction of two labourers of HVS Construction Pvt Ltd on Tuesday and Wednsday.
The arrested persons along with the recovered items were paraded before media persons at the Imphal Police Station today.
Briefing media persons, Additional Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, N Herojit Meetei said that “On December 18 at around 5:30 pm, the police received reliable information that some members of Kuki National Front (KNF) who have been working together with KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) group in committing many prejudicial activities were loitering in and around Nagamapal.”
“Immediately, a team of CDO Imphal West rushed to the said area and conducted search operation. The teams found two persons standing suspiciously by a dark blue Santro car bearing registration number MN-03P-0910 at Nagamapal opposite Tongbra Optical,” he said.
“They were detained for verification and on spot verification they were identified themselves as Doujagin Haokip alias Beeny, 35, son (L) Thongkhomang Haokip of V Vengnom Laizon Veng, Churachandpur district and Takhellambam Anand alias Max Singh, 38, son of T Yaima Singh of Kangchup Songlung of Senapati district. Both are active members of KNF (Kuki National Front),” he said.
“From their disclosure one AK-56 rifle with nine live rounds were recovered from Sadar Joute hillock, Senapati Distric,” he said.
“Further, from their disclosure one person namely, Naorem Kheman alias Prem Singh, 36, son (L) N Kala Singh of Thoubal Bazaar, an active member KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) Group was picked-up from Thoubal Bazaar, near United Bank of India, Thoubal Branch by the teams of CDO/IW assisted by CDO/Thoubal at around 7 pm of the same day,” he continued.
“From his possession a sum of rupees seven Lakhs was recovered and he disclosed that the amount was part of the ransom money taken from the proprietor of HVS Construction Pvt Ltd for the release of the two persons namely, Hawaibam Suresh Singh, 22, son of (L) H Tomba Singh of Khaidem Awang Leikai, Luwangpung and Jalauddin Barbhuiya, 27, son of Jamirudin Barbhuiya of village Appin Part-II, Hailakandi District, Assam, abducted from Keithelmanbi near BRTF workshop on November 25,” he said.
“From the disclosure of Naorem Kheman alias Prem Singh, the teams of CDO Imphal West assisted by CDO Bishnupur nabbed two cadres of KCP (Lamyan Khuman) from Nambol Bazaar at around 6:30 am of December 19,” the officer said.
“The two has been identified as Angom Ibochouba alias Punshiba alias Lanchaiba, 38, son of Angom Ibomcha Singh of Moirang Khoirou Leikai and Khuraijam Helemjit Singh alias, Naochouba, 26, son of Kh Munal Singh of Mayanglangjing Tamang of KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) group,” the officer further said.
“Further, one 9mm pistol with one magazine and three live rounds was recovered from the possession of Angom Ibochouba and one .32 pistol with one magazine and two live rounds was recovered from the possession of Khuraijam Helemjit Singh,” the officer said.
“All of them admitted that they are directly involved in the abduction of the two labourers of HVS construction Pvt Ltd,” the officer added.
