IMPHAL, Jan 3 MNS NNN: The Court of Sessions Judge, Imphal West Thursday rejected the bail plea of Laikhuram Rojit Singh, an accused in the gang-rape case of a chilli trader.
The Court rejected the bail plea citing the gravity and nature of the offence against the accused Rojit Singh and also the stage of the trial of the accused before the Court and further ruled that the bail may not be granted to the accused hence the prayer for bail is hereby rejected.
Petitioner Laikhuram Ongbi Sanahanbi Devi, wife of accused Rojit Singh, had sought the bail on behalf of her husband citing his health ground. The senior Medical Officer, Central Jail, Sajiwa where the accused is being lodged, read out and explained to the Court the medical report of the accused.
The Medical Officer stated that Rojit Singh has been suffering from prolapsed inter vertebrae disc (PIVD) and that he has been referred to the JN Hospital, Porompat from necessary treatment, adding the hospital has all the necessary facilities for treatment of the above illness.
However, the Court said that the submission of the Counsel for the accused that the authority of Central Jail, Sajiwa made the family members of the accused/patient to bear all expenditures incurred in his treatment at the JN Hospital is a serious matter which needs proper explanation from the jail authority.
Accordingly, the Court directed the Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa to appear before this Court on January 7 to explain the above allegations made before this Court.
