IMPHAL, Jan 3 MNS NNN : The manager of Mangalam Plywood Factory, Kanglatongbi was found dead in a fishpond located at Keijengbam Loukol, Waheng Khuman in Imphal West on Thursday. Three persons including two IRB personnel allegedly involved in the killing of Shankarlal have been arrested by police.
Shankarlal Swami had been reportedly kidnapped by some unidentified people on New Year’s Day morning from BT Road near Kangla Fort main gate, in the heart of Imphal. He was found dead around midday Thursday in a fish farm located at Keijengbam Loukol, Waheng Khuman Mamang Leikai under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West.
Upon receiving intelligence, a police team rushed to the fish farm when Shankarlal was found dead in the fishpond. Shortly after that they arrested three persons including two IRB personnel belonging to 1st IRB stationed at Kangla Fort in connection with the killing.
The police have identified the arrested two IRB personnel as Yumnam Dinesh, 30, son of late Y Angou, a resident of Waheng Khuman Maning Leikai and Laishram Herojit, 34, son of L Ibotombi, a resident of Laingam Khul, Lamshang. Later, another man, allegedly involved in the killing of Shankar, working with the oil pump of 1st Manipur Rifles, was also arrested by the police. The police identified him only as Hanjabam Dipu.
The police picked up the body and deposited it at the mortuary of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) pending autopsy besides a case has been registered with the Wangoi Police Station in connection with the incident, police sources said.
Meanwhile, police suspect the abduction of the manager was masterminded by a surrendered militant identified as Govind from Thoubal district belonging to KCP (Sunil Meetei) group as disclosed by the two IRB personnel. Govind was found missing when the police commando team raided his house.
Unable to arrest him (Govind), police picked up his elder brother who is working as rifleman at 1st Manipur Rifles, the source added.
