IMPHAL, Jan 12 NNN: The Autonomous District Council (ADC) Coordination Committee, Manipur has on Saturday strongly reacted to the recent statement of the Chief Minister that full power had been devolved to the ADCs.
Reacting to the recent statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi made during a function at Tousem on January 9, Hemjathang Khongsai, secretary, ADCCC, told the media today at the ADC Council Bhavan, Chingmeirong here that the remarks of the chief minister was uncalled for and that no power has ever been devolved to the 156 ADCs.
Condemning the statement, he said the Government of Manipur has not yet conceded the demands of the ADCCC till date. The committee had also submitted to the Government to response to the demands on November 10 last year.
Another ultimatum was also submitted to the chief minister in connection with the demands with a dateline that ended yesterday, .
A meeting of the committee was held at the Council Bhavan on Saturday attended by 130 ADC members to discuss further course of action of the committee as the state Government has not given a positive response to the ultimatum , he informed.
The meeting decided to organize mass protest dharna, to meet MLAs of the hill areas and the Governor and put pressure to the Centre with regard to the demands, he added.
All the ADC members will resign en masse if the demands fail to meet even after the above steps to be taken up as the last resort, he warned.
The demands of ADCCC include ensuring the autonomy of the six ADCs, separate budget and separate demand heads of each ADCs, adequate devolution of powers in respect of Central sponsored schemes in hill areas to the six ADCs and adequate devolution of powers for 26 subjects provided under Section 29 (1) of the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils (Third Amendment) Act, 2008, Khongsai added.
