The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) sponsored agitation was effective in Kuki dominated areas of Manipur on the first day today. Most oil to depots were closed down and sale of petroleum products in black market began early today.
A Maruti van and a mini truck were reportedly damaged along the National Highway 2, according a report received. Around 32 vehicles have been stranded along the Imphal-Jiri road while construction of rail-line has been halted near Jiribam, according to KSDC leaders.
Large number of women folks are enforcing public blockade along the Imphal-Ukhrul road, according to KSDC while the Imphal-Moreh route was also affective on the first day today.
Meanwhile, the KSDC has decided to exempt the participants and the officials from the purview of the agitation, who are participating in the
23rd National Canoe Sprint Championship to be held from January 30 to February 4 in Imphal. The KSDC asked the participants to put on their identity cards. The KSDC however appealed the sports persons not to misuse the advantage given to them during the agitation.
The KSDC has been demanding that a political dialogue with the Kuki militant outfits begin without further delay.MNS NNN
