IMPHAL January 29: In pursuance of the directions of the Supreme Court in its order dated 14.5.2011 and 14.9.2011 and further recommendations of the Central Vigilance Committee on Public Distribution System headed by Justice (Retd) D. P. Wadhwa vide letters dated 31.12.2012 and 4.1.2013 ; Union Ministry of Consumer affairs, Food and Public Distribution has made adhoc additional allocation of food grains to Gujarat, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir for distribution to additional BPL and AAY families in the identified poorest and backward districts upto March 31,2013.
In a letter No. 1-7/2011-BP III(Pt) dated January 18, 2013 of the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution which was addressed to the Secretary of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Governments of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh , Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir; allocation of 146 tons of rice for AAY families and seven tons of wheat and 228 tons of rice for BPL families has been made for Manipur.
The States have been asked to lift the allocated foodgrains with immediate effect and informed that the allocation is valid upto March 31, 2013. The State Governments have also been instructed to ensure that the allocated foodgrains are fully lifted within the validity period upto 31.3.2013 and reaches the poorest segments of the society timely. Further it has been instructed that utmost care must be taken for efficient and effective distribution of foodgrains to the targeted families.
The State Governments have also been instructed to separately report the lifting made by them against the allocations every month by the 5th of subsequent month positively as per the prescribed proforma to the Ministry.
It may be mentioned that the Union Ministry of Consumer, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India has issued an order on October 10 last year for constitution of State/Union Territory level Consultative Committees for the Food Corporation of India to protect the interests of the producers as well as the consumers and to advice the Food Corporation of India on various matters relating to procurement, storage and distribution of foodgrains. The Government of India has nominated Huidrom Nabakumar Singh, a resident of Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai, Imphal West-II, Manipur as member of the Consultative Committee of the Food Corporation of India(FCI) for the State of Manipur with immediate effect for a period of two years vide the Government Order No. 7-22/2008-FC.1 dated the 27th November 2012.
Further, Huidrom Nabakumar has appealed to all the BPL and AAY benefiaciaries of Manipur to contact the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Manipur to get the allocated foodgrains said a statement issued by Huidrom Nabakumar Singh, Member, Consultative Committee of FCI for Manipur
