IMPHAL, Jan 29 NNN: Seven children from Meghalaya who were rescued by Manipur police from human traffickers in Thoubal district of Manipur have been handed over to their families by the state Social Welfare Department on Tuesday.
The five boys and two girls are among the 12 minors age between 6 and 13. They were handed over to their parents during a simple function held at the premises of the state Social Welfare department.
They were handed over to the families for repatriation after WK Blah, chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Meghalaya and the Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal signed an agreement during the function.
The children were rescued by Thoubal police at a police check-post from a private vehicle in which they were travelling. The vehicle was heading for Moreh in the Chandel district of Manipur. Then, the police had handed them over to Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal.
