MNS:- Without people’s help, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) cannot be successful. Therefore, the people of Thoubal district should extend full co-operation to the authority, Shri P Sukumar, District Programme Manager, SSA, Thoubal district Manipur.
Shri Sukumar, who spoke as a resource person on the third day of the three-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign organized by PIB, Imphal at Thoubal, further said that SSA was introduced in 2009 under Right To Education (RTE), and launched in 2010. The main theme of SSA is to provide free education to every child within the age of 6 to 14, i.e., from Class I to Class VIII.Every child within this age group should be made aware of their Right to Education.
Speaking about the implementation of SSA in Thoubal district , the resource person said, there are two blocks in the district, namely Thoubal block and Kakching block. There are eight clusters in Thoubal Block and four clusters in Kakching Block. These clusters have taken up different programmes to implement SSA. As part of the programmes, Early Childhood Care(ECC) is taken up with a view to inculcate the habit in the children below six years of going to school. Thus Anganwadi Centers are opened in different areas in collaboration with ICDS.
Teachers are given training on using computer in order to introduce computer added learning in the schools.Free Health Check-up camps are held from time to time. Text books are provided free of cost to the students. In 2011-12, about one lakh text books were distributed to about 21,000 students. Sometimes complaints are received on non availability of text books in time. The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur has been asked to supply the text books in time. Uniforms are also provided free of cost to boys belonging to ST/SC and BPL families. But for girls , all are given uniforms free of cost.
Various other programmes such as Residential Bridge Course and Non Residential Bridge Course for students who got admitted to schools but did not go to attend the class , so that the children would not miss their RTE. Under Inclusive Education, differently able children are given free education up to the age of 16 years.
Earlier, Smt Premlata Loitam, media and Communication Officer, PIB, Imphal welcomed the audience. She said that this public Information campaign is organized al over the country to spread awareness among the people on whether the people are getting the benefits of the various flagship programmes launched by the Government of India.
