Imphal Feb 22 UNA : A gunfight between well armed suspected PLA cadres and troops of 24 Assam Rifles was reported in Manipur’s Chandel district on Friday, injured two Assam Rifles personnel.
The gunfight was reported after suspected rebels of PLA launched an attacked to the post of the 24 Assam Rifles at Saibon village under Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district in the wee hour of today, around 1.10 am and the security personnel reiterated.
The gunfight lasted for about 20 minutes and two AR jawans were reportedly injured.
In the aftermath of the gunfight, security forces launched a search operation at Saiton village and its adjoining areas.
An AK assault rifle suspected to have been left behind by the rebels was reportedly recovered during the search operation. However, there was no report of arrest of any rebel or suspect in the operation.
Even though police suspect PLA cadres behind the attack, any of the rebel group so far own up the attack till the time of filing this report.
