The restriction order has been announced in view of the indefinite ‘public blockade’ underway since last midnight sponsored by the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) demanding from the government to start political dialogues with the Kuki militants immediately.
Sources said the CrPC 144 will be promulgated from Pallel till the Indo-Myanmar township Moreh on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, all the transport services originating from the state capital Imphal to the hill districts of Manipur have been suspended since last midnight in view of the KSDC public blockade. However, there was not a single case of untoward incident reported due to the KSDC agitation.
Reacting to the move of the Chandel district administration to clamp the CrPC 144, KSDC spokesman George Guite said they have taken strong exception to the development. “Ours is a genuine demand and why should the administration decided to clamp such prohibition order against our democratic movement,” George Guite asked. He then said whatever may be the development “our volunteers are now stationed in all the strategic points to prevent the BCIM Car Rally in Kuki areas.” He said if forces upon, their volunteers are ready to sacrifice their lives for the Kuki cause.
