IMPHAL, Mar 6 NNN: Days after a hefty quantity of the banned drugs amounting to Rs 24 crore in the international market were seized from Army colonel Ajay Choudhury in Manipur, the security force personnel today seized drugs worth Rs 2.7 crore from a state government employee in Manipur’s Thoubal district.
A joint operation of Manipur police commandos, IRB and Manipur Rifles was carried out in the areas of Sora, Moijing and Lilong of Thoubal district and arrested a drug smuggler from Lilong area identified as one Md Tahir Ali, s/o Jinat Ali from Lilong Sambrukhong and recovered Tetra DX (Pripolidine Hydrochloride and Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride) tablets from his granary at around 7 am today.
The seized drugs are worth Rs 2.7 crore in the international market, according to the police.
Md Tahir Ali is said to be working as a clerk in the Directorate of Fisheries Department, government of Manipur. The security force personnel also recovered Rs 34,800 from Tahir Ali.
The joint security team also arrested another drug smuggler from Sora who has been identified as one Ayub Khan (42), son of Yaima Khan of Sora Maning Leikai. They recovered 990 tablets of Spasmo Proxivon tablets fro Ayub Khan.
