IMPHAL, March 11 NNN: Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) on Monday said steps will be taken soon with due consultation with Manipur Government to convert the Manipuri Language Written in Bengali Script, Act 1979 as Manipur Language Written in Meetei Mayek Act.
MEELAL secretary general P Thakaba Meetei while speaking at the inaugural function of a 10-day Meetei Mayek training course at Jina Hall, North AOC here said owing to the persistent efforts of MEELAL, students in the state will be able to write HSLC exam in Meetei Mayek (script) from 2015.
The training course is being organised by MEELAL ahead of the upcoming Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) exam in Meetei Mayek.
He said MEELAL will keep a close eye on students who have opted Additional English in lieu of Meetei Mayek in educational educations. It would also take steps to convert all the name of places given under outside languages in the state into the original historical names, he added. Around 500 individuals are taking part at the language training programme. The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) has been preparing to conduct the first ever Meetei Mayek TET exam on April 28.
