IMPHAL, Apr 10 NNN: Women’s Committee of the United NGO’s Mission Manipur (UNMM) today said the committee was not satisfied with the statement of Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Y Joykumar that the sensational Dr Ningombam Satyabhama murder case had been nearly solved following arrest of three accused. Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club here, M Sobita, convenor, UNMM, Women’s Committee, rejected the statement of the police chief that Satyabama murder case had been nearly solved after the arrest of three accused yesterday.
She said proper investigation into the case is highly needed as the circumstances that led to the death of Satyabama, who was a Junior Research Fellow of DBT Project in Pathology at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), was not clear. It is worth noting that Manipur Police pulled up three accused in the Satyabama murder case yesterday. They were Toijam James, Thoudam Jeevan and Kshetrimayum Biju.
Claiming that Manipur state has witnessed such cases now and then, Sobita said the law has never done justice or punished the guilty. “It is very important that the Satyabama murder case is appropriately probed and discovered whether Ksh Biju, the main accused in the murder was a paid killer,” she demanded.
She further pointed out that Mahindra Rodeo, a two-wheeler is a small vehicle while Satyabama was a well-built woman with more than 5 ft tall and rubbished the statement by Biju that he took her on the two-wheeler and dumped the body in a field after the murder. Sobita also said that the statement of the DGP did not mention the places from where the trio was pulled up and neither had he disclosed other details. The women organization leader also demanded that a political will be created by various political parties in the state by convening an all party meeting on the issue which sparked statewide agitation for several days.
“A fast track court should also be set up in the state in order to dispose all the criminal cases committed against women,” she further demanded.
She also blamed the Government CID, intelligence wing and legal experts of the state for keeping mum on the issue.
