IMPHAL, April 12: As part of the security measures taken up by the state police, cordon and search operations are being taken up in the state capital ahead of the Presidential visit to the state on April 15.
A team of Imphal West police commandos led by the Dy SP Operations S Ibomcha supervised the operations at Paona Bazaar, Governor road at around 10 am with many buildings located next to the Raj Bhavan being checked by the police personnel. People who were present in area were called out from their respective places and asked to come out on the street with verification being done one by one by a large number of police personnel.
Following the drive, 41 persons without proper identity cards for verifying their identities were handed over to the city police for further verification.
Speaking to the media, S Ibomcha said that the cordon and search operation is part of the security measure being taken up by the state police regarding the President`s visit to the state on 15 April 12. He added that the drive will continue in other parts of Imphal and appealed to the public to carry their identity proof along with them.
Another team of Imphal West police commando also conducted a cordon and search operation in the Yengkhoiba Bazaar at Chingmeirong under Heingang police station today noon. No arrests were made during the operations.
