IMPHAL, April 18: The valedictory function of a “Two months training programme on setting up of Agri-Clinics & Agri-Business Centres by graduates in Agriculture and Allied Subjects and the 24th Higher Diploma in Cooperative Management” was held today at the Conference hall of the Institute of Co-operative Management, Lamphelpat.
Speaking at the function, Education Minister M Okendro lauded the ICM for organizing the training program. The Minister also assured a total of Rs 5 lakh from the state Education department for the improvement of infrastructure of the ICM.
Addl Chief Engineer, Agri/CADA on his part said Agriculture is an important sector for the development of the state. He said that even though technology today has advanced much, people of the state are yet to take full benefits from the technology advancement.
There are several centrally sponsored schemes for the development of the agriculture, however the Agriculture department alone is unable to reach it out to the grassroots level and further urged the Government to introduce schemes and benefits to the co-operative society and make it accessible to the farmers of the state.
Elaborating on the means to usher development for agriculture in the state, he said the state government can acquire all the needed technologies and other essential items including fertilizers and pesticides from the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and provide it to the farmers of the state at subsidized rates.
