IMPHAL, April 19 NNN: Eastern Youth Club of Soibam Leikai has tendered apology to the tribal students in connection with the recent attack on the tribal students.
With regard to the Khanglabung Leirak, Soibam Leikai of Imphal incident where tenant tribal students were attacked, a joint meeting was initiated by the Superintendent of Police, Imphal East , Angam Kamei at his office chamber today.
According to the Kuki Students Organisation, Imphal Branch (KSO-IB) and Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI), the Eastern Youth Club admitted to their act and tendered their apology on behalf of the locals to the victim tenant tribal students, KSO and TKLI. “Moreover, senior citizens of the locality present in the meeting expressed concern over the incident and assured the student leaders as well as the victim students that, they will take up necessary precautionary measures not to recur such unwanted incident in future and request the tenant students to forgive and forget one another and live without fear in the locality once again,” the KSO and TKLI said.
The Kuki Students Organization, Imphal Branch and Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) also expressed their gratitude to SP Kamei and the senior citizens, in initiating a joint meeting to find an amicable solution. The student bodies also expressed their resentment over the incident and urged the local club representing the local populace not to repeat such unwanted incident on helpless tenant tribal students in the near future.
“The student bodies would like to thank civil organizations and individuals for their concern and support with regard to the incident and also thanked the Tribal Students’ Union of DM College of Arts, TSU of DM college of Sciences, TSU DM college of Commerce, Tribal Students’ Union of Modern College and Tribal Youth Council Manipur TYCM for the support and their positive responses to the proposed sit-in-protest on April 22. Moreover, informed to all concern that the proposed sit-in protest has been revoked as an amicable solution has reached between the student bodies and the local populace,” the KSO and TKLI informed.
Lastly, KSO and TKLI expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Superintendent of Police Imphal East, Angam Kamei, for his assistance of Rs10,000 to the victim tribal students for the loss of properties.
