IMPHAL, April 25 MNS NNN: Two labourers died after inhaling poisonous gas as they got down in an underground sewerage project pipeline here to clean it early morning Thursday in Imphal.
They descended into the underground pipe to clean it after opening the main hole of the Imphal sewerage project when they inhaled a toxic gas emanating from the pipe. The incident happened around 7 am.
The victims were identified as Elangbam Ranjit, 45, son of late E Birchandra and his nephew Elangbam Indra, 35, son of E Tomba, both residents of Wangjing Tentha Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district of Manipur.
Reports said men from Imphal Fire Service went down into the underground pipe after the duo failed to climb up for several hours and they found them dead inside it.A police case has been registered in connection with the incident.
Their bodies have also been handed over to their families after conducting autopsy at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
