IMPHAL, May 14: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Personnel has taken up adequate security measures to escort oil tankers following the kidnapping of oil tanker driver of Manipur by activists of Naga National Council (Federal) near the capital town Kohima of Nagaland in connection with the monetary demand some days back.
A spokesperson of All Manipur Petroleum Tankers and Drivers’ Union disclosed to IFP that CRPF personnel escorted the movement of oil tankers of the union along the stretch of National Highway – 2 from Imphal to Mao properly. CRPF personnel not only escorted loaded and empty oil tankers but discharged road opening patrol (ROP) duty etc at various places. There is confidence that further untoward incidents will not occur between Imphal and Mao. The security measures were taken up under the supervision of 69 BN CRPF of commanding officer Premjit.
The source further said that as usual, 56 petrol and diesel oil tankers including LPG bullets safely reached Imphal today. But a large number of loaded tankers could not come back as they faced difficulties while plying along the road due to heavy rainfall.
