IMPHAL, May 20: As part of May Day Observance being organised by All Manipur Upliftment Centre (AMMUC) for one month in every nook and cranny of Manipur from May 1 to May 31 in connection with the International Labourers day on May 1, a Labourers day was observed at Kakching Khunnou Cheksha pat today.
Expressing the significance of the observation of the day, H. Meghachandra, program co-convenor of AMMUC said that observation of May Day on May 1 only fails to bring concepts of labourers and their rights to the notice of the government completely.
Propagation of rights of labourers is a means to unification of labourers and to awaken them. The Manipur government put into their own pockets the fund of various schemes being allotted by the central government for peasants and labourers without the fund reaching/benefitting them.
Assistant Professor Ibohal, CAU said that peasants and labourers cannot avail of their facilities as the government has formulated policies and programmes. The peasants and farmers have the highest social status in the society and it is time to let the government know it. The fact is the peasants are the owners and the government is the servant. The government should formulate the market policy for the peasants to be encouraged to produce their produce. If not, the problem of non availability of peasants might ensue after some years.
Dr. S. Sushilkumar, SMS, Veterinary of KVK Andro, L Surchandra, SMS of KVK, Ukhrul, and N. Mahendra, Advocate of Supreme court spoke as resource persons at the function.
