IMPHAM, June, 15: The Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation has today issued a press release objecting to the official notification of the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul through local papers on June 4, 2013 regarding the verification to take up at Chadong on June 19, 2013 while saying that a number of condemnation and objection have been raised in this matter since October 2012 because the very process is not through proper channel, said it. Furthermore, it continues, “the affected villagers’ rehabilitation and resettlement issue lies at the expert review committee (ERC) which was officially constituted in 2008 and its review process have been taking place. So taking up the process through the wrong channel might have created a high social turmoil and violence because its drives are against the rights and aspirations of the affected people, said it.

IMPHAL, June 15: Lilong police today reportedly seized two JCB excavators and a Tata dipper for illegally digging and collecting soil from Waithou reserved forest range under Lilong police station in Thoubal district.

The operators of the heavy machinery and the driver of the dipper were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal, sources said.

IMPHAL, June 15: A press release from Manipur State Commision for Women said that a  team led by Dr L lbetombi Devi, Chairperson, H Piteswori Devi, Member, S Meghachandra Sharma, Member Secretary and supporting staff of Manipur State Commission for Women made a spot inquiry at the residence of deceased Lohiya aged 34 years wife of Pokihomao of Tadubi Village under Senapati District, Manipur on June 15 at 1:00 p.m.

It said that according to news reports, said deceased Lohiya was killed by her husband with his licensed gun.

The team interacted with the family members of late Lohiya and local people in order to know the real fact of killing and motive behind the said killing and some informative clue has been collected as to the cause of death, it said and added that Commission will initiate an inquiry for the said occurrence in order to try to curb such offences.
