IMPHAL, June 20: CPI has today announced a 12 hour total state bandh tomorrow from 5am to 5pm against police action during a party organized rally which was marching towards the state Assembly where the Full Budget session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly was in progress.
Announcing the bandh, secretary of the CPI, state council, Dr M Nara called a press conference at the party’s office this evening.
He said police resorted to firing mock bombs and tear gas shells against the democratic march of the CPI supporters and workers which was moving towards the state Assembly this noon.
During police firing a worker of the party was injured, he said before adding that he is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS.
He said that around 2000 workers of the CPI had started their march CPI calls 12 hour bandh against police action
from the party’s office against the failure of the state government to properly implement any developmental policies and programs in the state.
He continued that several other supporters and workers who were coming from different places of the state were stopped by the state police at different locations and preventing them from reaching the party office.
Police fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse and control the protestors, in which a worker identified as Maibam Sanahanbi (35) of Tentha Mayai Leikai was severely injured on her legs and is presently being operated upon at RIMS, he claimed.
The CPI state council secretary further condemned the state government and the state police for firing tear gas shells and mock bombs against the protestors who were taking out a democratic form of protest rally towards the state Assembly.
He alleged that the state is trying to suppress the various issues confronting the state at the moment by using brute police force.
He continued his censure of the state government alleging the present Okram Ibobi Singh led government of being anti-people, anti-democracy.
In order to save democracy and the democratic rights of the people of the state, the CPI is calling a 12 hour bandh from 5am till 5pm tomorrow, he said and added that essential services and religious ritual will be relaxed from the purview of the bandh.
He further appealed to the people of the state to support the 12 hour bandh.
