IMPHAL, June 20: Family members of the Home Secretary of United Revolutionary Front which had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state and central governments have claimed that the leader and other cadres of the outfit have been kidnapped by unidentified persons from near the AADARSH Laboratory located opposite of Kanglapat yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, Memthoi wife of the home secretary of the outfit Puyam Rohinikumar alias Mongyamba (55) son of (L) Indu of Khurai CHingambam Leikai claimed that the three members accompanied by their family members had gone to the laboratory for physiotherapy at around 12:15pm yesterday.
She said that she along with her husband and sub supreme committee member Yumnam Shantikumar alias Pamel (38), son of Kunungjao of Yumnam Huidrom his wife Shandhya, member of the URF Yumnam Shantikumar alias Raja (37) of Irom Meijarao were on a pass out from the Army camp where they are presently staying after the signing of the MoU for her health check-up and for the physiotherapy of Sandhya at Aadarsh laboratory in a Tata Travera which was driven by her husband Rohinikumar.
She continued that after reaching the laboratory, she along with Sandhya and her husband went inside the laboratory and left the two in the vehicle. During the course of time, some 3 to 4 unidentified persons came to their vehicle and called her husband by his name and further asked him to come down from the laboratory.
When his husband came down, the unidentified persons came and took away the three URP members in their own vehicle, she said.
She said that it is unfortunate that someone who had entered the mainstream with the signing of the MoU have been abducted in such a manner.
Poinu Luwang, the Assistant publicity secretary of the outfit said that yesterday’s incident is very unfortunate.
He said they had come out to the mainstream after laying down their arms and signing of MoU with the state and central governements.
Under the MoU signed, it is mentioned that none of the members of the URF would be arrested by any of the state or the central forces or para military forces and asked if the police have arrested any members of the URF without giving any prior information to the concerned authority, he asked.
He further added that the outfit has already talked to the concerned state officials on the issue.
