MNS: A one-day workshop on voluntary blood donation for media personnel jointly organized by State Blood Transfusion council and MACS was held at Manipur Press Club today.
Dr. L.R.Kom DD/MACS Dr. L. Tomcha Khuman, DD/ MACS Dr. A. Meina Prof. & head dept of IHBT, RIMS, Irengbam Arun, Senior journalist spoke as resource persons.
Dr. Tomcha, said a person can donate blood four times in a year. There is no harm when one donates blood as it can increase the beauty of complexion of the donor. Besides, regular voluntary blood donation can save the donor from various diseases while donating blood, a life can be saved.
He also said while donating blood, one should be checked whether the donor has the symptom of Hepatitis B,C, malaria and syphilis, unhealthy persons, pregnant woman, heart patients etc. should not donate blood.
Dr. M. Meina prof. & head dept of IHBT, RIMS who spoke on blood bank and its functions said there are four blood banks in the state. The govt. has the proposal to set up three more blood bank in Manipur.
Dr. Shailesh kumar Chourasia, project director, MACS in his inaugural speech said, we need blood for many reasons. For an urgent need, we should know the importance of blood. The blood is required at all places. Comparing with other states like Tripura, Mizoram, the states of blood collection in Manipur is very poor. Blood donation camp is mostly done by organized groups but can’t promote it among various people. He also appealed the media both electronic, and print to provide space for blood related news. If we have sufficient blood it can a boon to the population of Manipur.
