Imphal Jul 24UNA : Suspected militants abducted three officials of a company engaged in the construction of the Jiribam-Tupul railway line from Nungkao area of Manipur’s Nungba subdivision of Tamenglong district.
According to an official source, the three officials of the Coastal Project Limited were abducted on the night of July 18 around 11.50 pm by a group of suspected tribal militants from a stone crusher plant at Nungkao located on the side of the NH-37.
The abducted officials were Alok Kumar Roy (mechanical engineer), Narshima Patra (foreman) and Basant Gohain (supervisor). The officials of the Silchar branch of the company were currently camping at Khongsang of Tamenglong district and engaged in the construction of tunnel No. 2 of the Jiribam-Tupul railway project.
Police came to notice about the kidnapping of the officials only after senior general manager Sh Sharama of the company lodged a complaint with the Nungba police on Tuesday around 5.50 pm, the source said.
In his complaint to the police, the senior manager informed the police that the kidnappers identified themselves to be cadres of “JDF group” and demanded a huge amount of money for the safe release of the three officials.
This was not the time in which officials and workers of company engaged in the construction of tunnel of the Jiribam-Tupul railway project were kidnapped for ransom.
On April 23 last, suspected militants had also abducted four workers engaged by the same company in the construction of the Jiribam-Tupul railway line from Tinglakbag locality of Jiribam subdivision, near the Assam border.
The suspected tribal militants carrying sophisticated weapons and dressed in camouflage gear had walked into the camp of workers from Coastal Projects Ltd and beat up some workers before whisking way four of them at gunpoint.
