IMPHAL, October 31: Like in other parts of the country, the state government observed the 29th Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day) today in a function held at Manipur secretariat, South Block.

It was graced by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as chief guest and Dy CM Gaikhangam as president. Chief Secretary, DGP, Dy Speaker, Council of Ministers, MLAs, senior officials both from civil and police departments were also attended the function.

In his speech, O Ibibi recalled the noteworthy decisions and tasks performed by the late Prime Minister of India saying that during the 14 years tenure of the PM, 14 major banks were nationalized in the year 1969 and hold the post of Chairperson of NAM and tried a lot for peace and harmony among the NAM countries.

“She took up many tasks for the betterment of poor Indian villagers and was against violence. Violence only deters our development. Otherwise, India might be far developed country. Lets recalled her supreme sacrifice and dreams for the country,’’ the CM asserted.

While condemning the recent bomb blast in Imphal city that cause casualties to civilians, Gaikhangam said violence does not bring any solutions and to solve any sort of problems, dialogue and negotiation will be the best devices.

He added that to perform the dreams of the then PM into actions which is to bring solution for any issue through non-violence will give a meaningful 29th Re-dedication Day observation.

Meanwhile, the 29th Death Anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, ‘’Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas’’ was also observed today at the office of Thoubal DC wherein officers and staffs of all departments of the district headquarter attended it, informed a press release from District Information Officer, Thoubal.

Additional District Magistrate, Thoubal L Nabakiswar Singh administered the oath of taking all steps to preserve national integrity and communal harmony where the officials who took the oath pledged not to give any scope for violence, the release added.

IMPHAL, October 31: The three day long XXVII Inter College Youth Festival 2013 which begun on October 29 concluded today with the valedictory function held at Centenary Hall, MU.

The function was attended by MU Vice Chancellor HNK Sarma, Dean of Students Prof RK Hemakumar Singh, School of Human & Environmental Sciences Dean Prof M Deva Singh and School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences Dean Prof Dhaneshwor Singh as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.          

Speaking at the function, Prof HNK Sarma said that the participants selected from this festival will participate at the national level youth festival to be held at Mithibai University, Darbhanga, Bihar.

While saying that the festival provides recreation for the students from their hectic study schedules, he concluded his speech by giving his best wishes to the students.

Dean of Students, RK Hemakumar speaking at the function said the participants who are going to participate at the national level youth festival representing Manipur University will spread the message of “Youth for integrity.”

He also said that he had collected suggestions from the team managers as well as teachers during the course of the festival and promised to bring improvement in the next festivals to come.   

This year the festival was participated by around 800 students from 27 colleges.  

Manipur University PG Classes won the overall team championship of the festival.

IMPHAL, October 31: Manipur Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar has greeted the people of the state especially those from the Kuki-Mizo-Chin community on the happy and joyous occasion of Kut 2013.

In his message, the Governor said Kut, a post harvest festival of the people is a thanks giving to the Almighty for a generous harvest and the celebrations have now transcended the community to all the people of North East India.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh also conveyed his heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur particularly the Kuki-Mizo-Chin brethren on the joyous occasion of Kut festival.

In a statement, the CM said the spirit of Kut festival is all about sharing, understanding, harmonious co-existence, co-operation and merriment and expressed hope that the festival will spread the message of love, peace and brotherhood amongst all communities living in Manipur.

IMPHAL, October 31: Local residents apprehended two non-local hawkers for misbehaving with a married woman today at Khurai Sajor Leikai under Porompat Police, Imphal East district.

The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh Sutu, 16, son of Jogendra Singh of Bishnor District of UP and Sandeep Singh, 25, of Dimapur.  

A press meet held in this connection at the office of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) said that the incident occurred this morning around 10:20 am. The committee told media persons that the accused were handed over to the committee by the Khurai locality.

The committee revealed that the accused were selling Harbel products of a company based in Amrita Nagar Ghaat Kapoor, Mumbai Hotel.

Several bottles of herbal products, a 500 rupees counterfeit note, coins and mobile phones and several identity cards of different company were confiscated.

The accused forcibly tried to enter the residence of one Khurai Sajor Achom Leonoid, 29, son of A Gopal despite objections by his wife. Moreover, the accused were also reported to misbehave with Leonoid’s wife.

IMPHAL, October 31: Members of the political team that visited Moreh in connection with the border dispute will urge the Central Election Manifesto Committee to accommodate their input on the welfare of the state in the preparation of the party manifesto, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while addressing a press conference at his chamber at Congress Bhavan.

The MPCC president continued that three points will be forwarded for inclusion in the manifesto, which is ensuring protection of national as-well-as international boundaries, development of connectivity in the state and to upgrade the National Sports Academy at par with the academy at Patiala.

The inspection reports of the controversial Indo-Myanmar fencing border by the delegation will be incorporated in the draft memorandum which is in the process of preparation and the state will urge the central government for inclusion before the Parliamentary election to the All India Congress Committee.

IMPHAL, October 31: The State Level Quiz, Essay and Debate Competition and Prize Distribution organized by Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Manipur was held today at Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC).

It was graced by Education Minister M Okendro as chief guest; Addl Director Education (S) Ranjan Yumnam as president and Director Education (S) and State Project Director, SSA and RMSA H Deleep Singh as guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, M Okendro stated that it is an important to give proper foundation to students so that their inherited talents could be tapped and in doing so the role of their parents is also equally important.

He further said students should be encouraged and put them in variety of competition so as to provide them better platform.

Ranjan Yumnam asserted that students indulging in co-curricular activities are much needed to mould their talents in any of the field and that such competition needs wider publicity so that more students could take part in it.

In the essay competition, Christina Khundrakpam (Kendriya Vidyalaya), Rajkumar Babysana (Nirmalabas School) and Raeesa Lairenlakpam (Maria Montessori) bagged first, second and third position respectively while L Lucy Lhinghoikim Kom (Don Bosco Hr Sec, CCpur), J Peace (PP Christian English School, SPT) and Lhingkhonei (JNV CCpur) clinched first, second and third position respectively in the debate competition.

The three-day photography trip to Karang Island in Thanga AC is a regular monthly event to capture the scenic beauty of Manipur for upgradation of the tourism potential enjoyed by the state.

The Karang Island trip was started from October 25 to 27, 2013 to cover the regular MPC events of capturing images of our beautiful places but a general health awareness camp was included as part of the trips. In the health camp MPC distributed thousands of medicine ranging from vitamin supplement, Iron supplement, cough syrup, Calcium tablet etc. to the villagers of Karang Island.

The MPC appreciated the warm hospitality offered by the villagers and CO of 6th Assam Rifles and post commander Assam Rifles at Karang for making the stay at Karang a secure one. It also thanked Sapam Pharmacy and Rishikanta of Indemic for providing medical supports.
