IMPHAL, April 12: A hand grenade was found from the residence of a Congress worker Angom Sovamani, 45, son of Herachandra of Kakching Khunou Tampakmayum Lai Leikai following which the Waikhong police has recovered the same from there.

Police source said that the hand grenade was found on Saturday at around 6 am by the family members and added that Sovamani is a Congress worker.

After the bomb was found, family members informed the Waikhong police station.

Meanwhile, the Imphal-Moreh highway was blocked at Kuraopokpi for some time after a suspected sack packed with empty plastic bottles was found lying on Saturday around 8 am.

It however turned out to be a bomb hoax.

Sources said a patrol party of the 22 AR found the sack, and fearing about the presence of a bomb blocked the road stretch for some time.

However, it was later confirmed to be a hoax bomb by a team of bomb experts.

IMPHAL, April 12: A five-day adventure camp for Tejpur University students was inaugurated today at Manipur Mountaineering Institute Complex Lamdan.

Yambem Ningthem – Managing Director, Manipur Development Society, Dr L Surjit Singh –president –MMTA and Ph Chandrakumar Sharma attended the function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Altogether 40 campers are participating in this camp including 10 girls.

In his speech, Ningthem expressed that an adventure camp is a catalytic agent for other sports discipline and also one of the most important discipline for multipurpose outdoor education.

He also committed to create an eco-park inside the MMI complex in near future which could attract the tourists from outside.

The camp will continue till April 16, 2014.

IMPHAL, April 12: The returning officer of No 1 Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat has said in a press release that Section 77 (1) of the Representation of the People’s Act, 1951 makes it mandatory for every candidate to the House of People or a State Legislative Assembly to keep a separate and a correct account of all expenditure incurred or authorized by him or by his election agent between the date on which he was nominated and the date of the declaration of the result, both dates inclusive.

In connection with the General Elections to the 16th Lok Sabha Election, 13 Video Surveillance Teams (VST), 9 Static Surveillance teams (SST), 1 Flying Squad Team, 1 Video Viewing Team, 5 Accounting Teams and 1 Media Monitoring Team are deployed besides appointing 5 Assistant Expenditure Observers (AEO) including 1 AEO (Headquarter) in order to bring about an effective Election Expenditure Monitoring mechanism, it said.

IMPHAL, April 12: A sit in protest was held today at Hiyanglam Wabagai Tera Pishak market against the kidnapping of Wahengbam Sanjay, 30 of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai, son of W Manihar by the suspected army personnel on April 10 around 10 pm.

The suspected army personnel had come in a Gypsy without registration number and nabbed Sanjay from Hiyanglam area. Later, he was handed over to Lilong police station under the charge of having relation with a UG outfit.

Following the incident, a public meeting was held on April 11 and took two resolutions.

The resolutions are to deny the allegation against W Sanjay as not acceptable. Locals said he is only cultivator and should be released at the earliest without any condition.

The other is to form a JAC in this connection and launched a strong agitation unless he is not release by April 14.

The protest was jointly organised by the Hiyanglam Meira Paibis; Kanglei Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Hiyanglam Wabagai; Young Defence Club, Hiyanglam Wabagai and Absolute Beneficiation Club, Hiyanglam Wabagai.
