IMPHAL, June 28: Contraband ganja worth over Rs. 20 lakhs was disposed off by the Narcotic Affair and Border (NAB) along with the police personnel this morning by setting it on fire at Phongdungbam Kanglahowbi Chingmathak under Lamlai Police station, Imphal East District.
The ganja was disposed off as per the provision of the section 42A of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 after obtaining pre-trial disposal order of the concerned court.
The 4,110.84 kg ganja was disposed off under the supervision of the drug disposal Committee headed Kh Chandramani DIG range 4 as the chairman of the committee, Husne Zamal addition SP law and order Imphal East and Gautam SP NAB along with the police personnel of Porompat and Lamlai Police.
Speaking to media persons after the disposal Chandramani divulged over Rs. 20 lakhs worth drugs was seized in 32 FIR cases of different police stations across the state from the year 1997 upto 2013.
PRO of Police, Gautam SP NAB informed that along with the ganja the committee had obtained orders for disposal of opium and herion seized in 46 different cases.
He further informed that to dispose the remaining opium and heroine number 4, the committee needs to take prior information of at least 15 days before the disposing the items from the chief controller factory New Delhi.
